Opinions Count

Samaritan [1]

"She needed help. That was it,". A very strange thing, buying a house for a complete stranger. If it had have been a family member, that would have been fine. However Marilyn Mock did this for a complete and utter stranger, named Tracy Orr.

No matter how strange this deed was, it cannot be denied that it is a heartwarming one. It makes me happy to realise that not all of humanity is consumed by selfishness and greed, only working to satisfy themselves. True, Tracy will have to pay Miss Mock back - it's only fair after all. I'm sure that Marilyn will be a lot easier to deal with than the bank.

Marilyn did a wonderful thing, and although I don't know her personally I feel proud of her. Seeing how happy Tracy was probably made the entire thing worth while to her. I'm glad that Tracy will be able to keep her house, and that she may gain a friend through the situation as well.

Valedictorian Trouble [2]

A validictorian is supposed to be someone who can be looked up to. Unfortunately, Gary Rego, the head boy of a private school has prooved to us that even "heroes" have their "moments". He delivered a speech that was found to be highly abusive to the principals, and had been forced off of the stage.

Personally, I myself don't disagree or blame him. As a student, I feel that they don't keep us informed enough - he thought that the principal was slacking off, and that the other was trying to stifle them. I myself have felt the same various times - and when we try to voice the concerns to teachers, or other staff memebers we're practically ignored.

People believe that Gary was being abusive, while I think he was trying to prove a point. He was attempting to draw attention to problems, because no one else will address them. As far as everyone else seems to be concerned, problems like that are for the staff to deal with.

He did what he did, nothing will change it. To me, he did a good thing - not by degrading people, but by doing something about the issues plaguing the school. Sure, he should have gone about it differently but really...What other way is there?

Unhygienic [3]

"Health officials said they don't know how long the practice has been going on.". Personally, I'm not surprised. The government has slacked off, ignored it's duties, and now we're paying for it. The government didn't do it's job, and now people have to go and get tested for diseases.

I question if it's a mistake. If people were to get diseases from the reused syringes, wouldn't the government make more money? How could they inspect hospitals and doctors, yet not notice that it's happening?

I'm disgusted by what happened, and truly believe it to be the government's fault. No one is going to listen to you, if you don't inforce your rules. They didn't enforce them and now many people will suffer the consequences - well many people who aren't involved in the government.

I think that it's horrible that these people were subject to malpractice. I also entirely blame the Canadian Government.

Zack and Miri [4]

I find it completely and utterly idiotic to ban a movie from a theatre for the title of "porno". Personally, I think that everything is "pornographic" to someone, on some level. Regardless, it's just a word.

"Kevin Smith's surprisingly tame and sentimental movie has a few flashes of nudity, a handful of love scenes played mostly for laughs, and a whole lot of foul language." - Oh no, foul language and a few funny scenes. That's absolutely horrible - yet this theatre played Saw V. It makes absolute sense considering as self mutilation and decapitation are so much more fluffy and sweet than a few funny love scenes.

It's a word. We don't need to be censored from a word. I see worse things written in the bathroom stalls everytime I go in there. Even students in grades three and four read worse things in the bathroom.

The entire thing is completely stupid. Banning it from one theatre won't change a thing - except that theatres actual income. As far as I'm concerned, it's the owner's loss not anyone else's. Now everyone knows to go to a different theatre instead. So really, he's not shielding anyone at all.
