"Cinderella's" Secret

"Hey Josh, man. How the hell d'you do it?"

Josh blinked, looking over at his friend. "Do what?" After a moment, his eyes slid back to a girl he had been watching, Kinda hot he thought to himself, lips quirking into a smirk.

"Get all the chicks." The friend said, shoving at Josh's shoulder.

"Dude, he's like the hottest guy in school according to all the chicks. Ain't that right, mister Pop-u-lar?" Another friend asked.

"Well." Josh paused "Yeah I guess. I dunno." He ran a hand through his hair, before blinking against the strong pulsing lights of the club. He felt his heart thump to the beat of the music, and shook his head.

"So you found Misses Right yet? I mean like, you have chicks flingin' themselves all over you. Why don't you got a girl?"

Josh fought the urge to roll his eyes. These people soo don't know me. My own friends don't even know WHY I don't have a girlfriend.

He looked around again before his eyes landed on a beautiful girl. She was leaning up against the wall, a scowl settled across her pretty features. He watched the lights bounce off of her chestnut hair and without thinking, he began to approach.

A cocky smirk slid across his face, and the girl snorted to herself as she watched him draw nearer. Thinks he's all that.

"Hey there hot stuff. Wanna dance?" He smirked, settling his weight onto one leg.

"Naw. But obviously you do." She sneered why eyeing him up and down. "What else are you lookin' for?"

"Hey now, don't be that way. I'm just looking to dance." He leaned towards her, grinning.

"Dancing leads to other things." She crooned in a sing song voice while pushing herself away from the wall "Yeah. Let's dance - just no grinding."

"Why not?" Josh watched her walk by him, heading towards the bodies swaying together on the dance floor.

"'Cause I said so. Got a problem with it?" She tossed a playful smile over her shoulder, eyes sparkling with mischief. "Stop starin' at my ass Mister I-Only-Want-To-Dance."

"Sorry."

"No you aren't. Lying is a dirty habit."

"Yeah...you're right."

They moved together as a slow song started to drift through the speakers. Josh wrapped a hand around her waist.

"What's your name?"

"Jamie. You?"

"Josh."

He began to pull her closer, hands tightening around her.

"Hey- Not too close."

"Relax."

"No. Not too close." She began to pull away, hands on his chest. An angry look settled itself upon her face.

"Hey. Okay. Look, relax. I'm sorry. I won't do it again."

"If you do I'll kick you in your -" Her threat was cut short as her cell phone began to ring. "Crap. I'm expecting a call. I gotta take this."

"Yeah...Okay."

His hands slipped away from her waist as she went to stand by the coat check. He watched as she answered her cell phone, eyes rolling, head nodding.

"Yo Josh man. Let's go." His friend from earler grabbed his arm.

"Hold on a minute. I wanna watch her."

"Whoa. Creeper! I'll meet you out back" He laughed, walking away from Josh.

"Yeah sure, whatever." Josh muttered, watching his princess on the phone.

Jamie set her cell phone onto the coat check counter, tugging on her coat. She shouldered her purse, and walked away...leaving her cell phone behind.

Josh walked over and picked it up. He looked through the contacts, a slow smile sliding onto his face. Jamie's home phone number and address were in the contacts list. I'm coming Cinderella...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Josh walked up the driveway, a nervous frown on his face. He paused at the steps, then finally made his way up them. He knocked on the door, shuffling from foot to foot.

A middle aged woman answered the door, wearing a pink apron. "Hello?"

"Uh, hi. Is Jamie here?" Josh said after clearing his throat.

"Oh of course! A moment please." She closed the door again, and Josh heard her calling for her daughter.

The door opened again and Josh came face to face with a...boy?

"Hello?" The boy tilted his head at Josh. His eyes lowered to the cell phone and he grinned.

"Oh...Uhm...I think I got the wrong house. Sorry."

"Nope." The boy chirped. "Thanks for my cell. I was goin' psycho crazy without it. By the way, thanks for the dance."

Josh stood looking dumfounded as Jamie, a BOY closed the door in his face.

Cinderella isn't always what she seems...

Haha lets call this an afterword :P

Many of you are probably wondering why this modern fairy tale doesn't have a happy ending. Truth is, most 'tales' these days, don't have any happy endings. This was as modern as I could make it.

You have an amazing talent Erika, which breaks my heart, because the lack of consistency and incomplete assignments will not allow your mark to reflect that.
